Analysis & Observations on Engraving VersaTILE® 1/2-Inch Unglazed Ceramic Quarry Tile
Optimal Engraving Settings:
The best results were observed with power levels between 60%-80% and slower speeds of 5–10 mm/s. These settings created clearer and more defined engravings, ideal for achieving visible results on this extremely dense material.
Impact of Tile Density:
The dense, unglazed ceramic surface requires higher energy to produce visible marks, making slower speeds and higher power crucial for optimal results.
Faint Engravings:
Lower power levels (20%-50%) or higher speeds (30–50 mm/s) resulted in faint or barely visible engravings. These settings may not provide sufficient contrast for detailed designs.
Air Assist Impact:
The use of 5 PSI air assist minimized smoke buildup and helped maintain engraving clarity by blowing away debris during the process.
Line Interval and DPI:
The 0.004-inch (0.1mm) line interval and 20 kHz frequency ensured consistent and uniform engraving depth, highlighting the Monport Onyx’s precision on challenging materials.
Recommended Settings for VersaTILE® Engraving:
- Power: 60%–80%
- Speed: 5–10 mm/s
- Line Interval: 0.004 inches (0.1mm)
- DPI: 254
- Air Assist: 5 PSI
- Frequency: 20 kHz
These settings are tailored for dense, unglazed ceramic and offer the best balance between clarity and material compatibility.
