Analysis & Observations on Engraving 4mm Genuine Leather
Optimal Engraving Settings:
The best engraving results were achieved with power levels between 40%-60% and speeds ranging from 150–300 mm/s. These settings created clean, well-defined engravings without excessive burning, making them ideal for detailed leather projects.
Excessive Charring and Burn Marks:
Higher power levels (70%-100%) combined with slower speeds (50–150 mm/s) caused significant charring and burn marks. These settings are unsuitable for precision work as they result in uneven and overly dark engravings.
Faint Engravings:
Lower power levels (20%-30%) and higher speeds (350+ mm/s) produced faint engravings that lacked depth and clarity. While unsuitable for detailed work, these settings could be useful for subtle marking or decorative effects.
Air Assist Impact:
The use of 5 PSI air assist minimized smoke buildup and helped maintain engraving clarity by blowing away debris during the process.
Line Interval and DPI:
The 0.004-inch (0.1mm) line interval and 254 DPI setting ensured sharp and consistent engravings, highlighting the Monport Onyx’s ability to produce precise results on leather.
Recommended Settings for 4mm Genuine Leather Engraving:
- Power: 40%–60%
- Speed: 150–300 mm/s
- Line Interval: 0.004 inches (0.1mm)
- DPI: 254
- Air Assist: 5 PSI
- Frequency: 20 kHz
These settings offer a balanced approach to achieving detailed, high-quality engravings on leather while minimizing the risk of charring or faint results.
