Analysis & Observations on Cutting 0.5 mm Magnetic Sheets
Optimal Cuts:
The cleanest and most precise cuts were achieved with power settings between 60% and 80% and speeds ranging from 15–25 mm/s. These settings delivered sharp edges with minimal residue, making them suitable for projects requiring high precision.
Excess Burning:
Higher power levels, such as 90%–100%, combined with slower speeds (e.g., 5–10 mm/s), led to noticeable overburn. The edges became heavily scorched, resulting in a less polished finish. These settings are less suitable for projects where edge quality is critical.
Insufficient Cuts:
Higher speeds (30 mm/s and above) at lower power settings (20%–40%) produced incomplete cuts that failed to penetrate the magnetic sheet fully. While unsuitable for cutting, these settings may work better for light surface engraving.
Air Assist:
The 5 PSI air assist played a vital role in maintaining clean edges, effectively reducing debris buildup and preventing excessive residue from clinging to the material.
Line Interval and DPI:
With a line interval of 0.1 mm and a DPI of 254, the laser engraver maintained exceptional precision, ensuring clean and consistent results across all tested parameters.
Based on our test, the most effective settings for achieving clean cuts on 2mm basswood are:
- Power: 60%–80%
- Speed: 15–25 mm/s
- Air Assist: 5 PSI
- Line Interval: 0.1 mm
- DPI: 254
- Frequency: 20 kHz
These settings strike the perfect balance, minimizing overburn while achieving clean, complete cuts through the magnetic sheet. If you’re working on detailed projects, these parameters will ensure professional-grade results.
