Analysis & Observations for 1.5mm Mirror Engraving

Important Note:

Using speeds below 100 mm/s caused the mirror to crack during engraving. For mirror surfaces, avoid extremely slow speeds to prevent excessive heat buildup and material damage.

Cleanest Engravings:

The best results were achieved with power levels between 40% and 60% and speeds of 200–300 mm/s. These settings produced smooth, well-defined engravings with excellent clarity, making them ideal for intricate designs.

Overburn and Excess Etching:

Higher power settings (70%-100%) combined with slower speeds (100–150 mm/s) led to excessive etching and overburn, resulting in rough, frosted areas that lacked fine detail.

Faint Engravings:

At higher speeds (400–500 mm/s) and lower power levels (20%-30%), the engravings were too faint and lacked definition. These settings are not suitable for detailed work but might work for subtle surface marking.

Frequency and Air Assist:

Using a frequency of 20 kHz and air assist at 5 PSI reduced excess dust and helped achieve a cleaner engraving surface.

Line Interval and DPI:

The 0.1 mm line interval and 254 DPI setting provided excellent precision, ensuring consistent engraving quality across the grid. These settings highlight the Monport Onyx’s ability to deliver sharp and detailed results.

Recommended Settings for 1.5mm Mirror Engraving:
  • Engrave from the Back: For best results, engrave the mirror from the reflective side and horizontally flip your design in your software to ensure the image appears correctly when viewed from the front.
  • Power: 40%–60%
  • Speed: 200–300 mm/s
  • Line Interval: 0.1 mm
  • DPI: 254
  • Frequency: 20 kHz
  • Air Assist: 5 PSI
